Revolver was found out in actor's wife bag

Telugu film star couple Rajasekhar and Jeevita on Saturday created a sensation at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad by trying to board an aircraft with a revolver.

They were stopped by security personnel when they noticed a revolver in Jeevita's handbag. When questioned, they said it was their licensed revolver and that their servant, by mistake, kept it in the bag.

The actor was trying to board the Chennai-bound flight when they were stopped by airport security personnel. The revolver was later handed over to the Shamshabad police.

The couple had to cancel their visit and they got their revolver back only after producing a copy of their licence.

The couple recently joined Andhra Pradesh's ruling Congress party. They had also sought police protection on the ground that they faced a threat to life.

Three months ago, they were attacked by Telugu actor Chiranjeevi's fans who were protesting Rajasekhar's comments about the superstar's plunge into politics.

Heroines taking pride in learning telugu

Speaking Telugu like a native is in these days. Priyamani, the famous Tollywood actress, is Malayali by birth and has grown up in Benguluru. But she speaks Telugu fluently and takes pride in it. Soon, it became “downmarket”. But that’s changing now.” Madhu confesses that the language is one unifying factor in an industry like Tollywood where talent is outsourced from all parts of the country. “It’s a language we think, speak and even dream in. Thankfully, new age T’wood movies have done their bit in making Telugu cool again.”

Some have learnt it from their colleagues and some by watching Telugu films. Says Nikita, a Punjabi by birth, “Nitin helped me learn the language when we were shooting for Sambaram. I also picked up a lot after watching Telugu movies.”

Charmi imitating pawan Raviteja !

CHARMI, who has done heroine-oriented flicks like Anukokunda Oka Roju and Mantra is here again. Yes. Now she is playing one such role in her upcoming venture titled 16 Days.

The actress was on cloud nine disclosing the film’s progress at a press meet at Annapurna Seven Acres in the city on Monday. Charmme will be seen oozing out with oodles of positive energy in the film.

"I play Angel, a character which I have never done and remains one of my favourite characters. It has brought out my innate skills which you can see in my imitation of Rajnikant, Kamal Haasan, Pawan Kalyan, Raviteja and Sunil," she said.

While the film’s director Prabu Solomon chose to describe her role simply as a Lady Rajnikant.

"Charmme’s role has got different dimensions. She rides bike, imitates people in this bilingual. When it comes to the title, the count down starts when the hero and heroine meet and on the 16th day it culminates in the climax," said the director.

Chinni Prakash, who choreographed songs for films like Jodha Akbar, has choreographed a song in the film. "The song has been shot in a true Hollywood style. It has been picturised on Charmme and Russian cheergirls," explained the choreographer.

Currently shooting for an introductory song at Annapurna Seven acres the film is all about how she lives and perceptions. It tries to say: ‘Think positive and take life positive’.

Charmme has another reason to smile about because she has a romantic duet in the film. "So far I have not had a duet. All the songs were one sided. And this film has fulfilled my wish," she said.

Aravind, assistant to Maniratnam, makes his debut as a hero with the film. Dharan has scored the music. Cinematographer Sukumar, lyricist Bhaskarbhatla Ravi Kumar were among those present. Cosmos Entertainment is producing the film.

Story
Aditya (Farhan Akthar), Joe (Arjun Rampal), KD (Purab Kohli) and Rob (Luke Kenny) are four friends in college and form a rock band called 'Magik'. A slight misunderstanding shatters their entire future in music when they are about cut their maiden music album. Wife of Aditya happens to see their nostalgic photographs 10 years after the incident. The rest of the story is all about how they reunite and perform on the stage.

Actors:
The nobility of this film is such that you don't need glamorous guys for the roles of rock stars. Hence the director has chosen the right actors. Farhan Akthar surprises you with his honest performance. Arjun Rampal who has shown his other side as villain in Om Shanti Om film reveals the complete actor him. He is a revelation in this film. Purab Kohli helps in getting some light moments. Luke Kenny is amazing. Shahana Goswamy gave amazing performance. Koel Puri is sweet. Prachi Desai is good.

Technical departments:

Story - Screenplay - direction: The story of the film is simple. It is about four friends who separated due to a misunderstanding during college going for reunion after a gap of 10 years. What makes this story work is screenplay and narrative style. The director juxtaposed the current story with spaced flashbacks. And music is just a part of the film and the director concentrated more on the relationship aspects in a matured way. The director tried to be hip without losing the honesty in the story. The director conveniently avoided the bad aspects (drugs, sex and alcohol) of rock bands in order to make this film appear very noble. However the following scenes impress you the most -

1. When Debbie comes and explains her husband situation to Aditya.
2. When KD sings and dances to it in a party.
3. When Aditya sings the song written by Joe in the finale

Technical departments: The music by Shankar – Ehsaan – Loy is excellent and it's their kind of film. Cinematography by Jason West is superb. Editing is crisp. Dialogues by Farhan Aktar are good.

Analysis: It takes lot of guts to make a film like Rock On. It is a well made flick that explores the strained relationship of four passionate music lovers who formed a rock band. The director dealt the film with lot of honesty and realistic approach. All the characters in this film behave in a natural way exhibiting their strengths and weaknesses (no filmy heroism). On the flip side, there are a few moments in the film where the tempo falls down. On a whole, Rock On rocks and every learned audience must watch it to explore the sheer honesty in the film.

Phoonk to release in telugu as RAKSHA

Phoonk, which opened to packed houses in India last Friday, is going international. The general practice is to release a Hindi film across the globe on the same date, but in this case, the makers of Phoonk released the film in India, not in Overseas.

Already 2.5 lakh people arrived
An estimated 2.5 lakh people have already arrived at the venue of megastar's public meeting by 11.00 am at Avilala Cheruvu, Tirupati. Most of them are from Godavari districts, Krishna and Guntur. Those who are reaching the venue have to stop their vehicles one and half km away from away and walk the distance. Allu Arvind arrived at the spot at around 11.15 a.m. and supervised the arrangements. Despite scorching heat at the pilgrim town, the crowds have taken time standing at blocks. Preliminary reports say the public meeting would start only after 4.30 P.M. By the peak of evening, the crowds are expected cross 15 lakh mark.

They are protesting against the closure of the factory, though it is not in losses. The workers demanded that Chiranjeevi should intervene and take steps for the resumption of the factory. The agitators said that they would resort to dharna before Chiru's party office in Hyderabad, if the actor-politician fails to fulfill their demand. The factory is at Nagari (Andhra-TN border) in Chittoor district.

Jogaiah and also leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), who have joined the actor's party in the past one week, besides Chiranjeevi's brother-in-law and chief advisor Allu Arvind, brothers and actors Naga Babu and Pawan Kalyan will sit among the audience.

The decks were cleared for the meet Aug 21 when the Supreme Court refused to stop the event on a petition by a local NGO, which argued that the event on lake bed would harm the environment.

As many as 23 special trains, hundreds of private and state-owned buses will ferry Chiranjeevi fans from different parts of the state. A majority of the people are expected from coastal Andhra, the actor's home region.

As many as 5,000 Telugu NRIs from different countries, mainly the US, are expected to attend the meet. A group of NRIs are already touring parts of the state to mobilise public support for the actor.

Chiranjeevi, who turned 53 Friday, choose Aug 26, the birth anniversary of Mother Teresa, to launch his political party.

At his first news conference, the actor said he was inspired by Mother Teresa and declared that he too was dedicating his life to serve the poor.

After a 30-year career in films, Chiru, as the actor is popularly known, donned a new role like matinee idol N.T. Rama Rao, who changed the course of Andhra politics by coming to power within nine months of launching TDP in 1982.

Chiru, one of the highest paid actors in India and whose fan following is compared to NTR's, is engaged in social services like running blood and eye camps. In another gesture, he enrolled a physically challenged youth as the first member of the party.

Elaborate arrangements have been made for the meeting, which will begin after Chiranjeevi pays obeisance at the Lord Venkateshwara temple on Tirumala Hills. The three-hour meeting is set to begin at 4 p.m.

Adding filmi touch to the mega event, the organisers have hired two helicopters. A chopper will shower flower petals on the venue, while another will record the event, beaming it across 70 huge LCD screens deployed around the area.

Story
Rajeev (Sudeep) is a young and successful construction engineer with ambitious plans. He is an atheist. He has a religious wife and two kids. He fires a woman called Madhu (Aswini Kalsekar) and her husband for indulging in fraud. In turn she uses black magic on the little daughter of Rajeev. The rest of the story is all about how an atheist like Sudeep believes in Black magic and saves his daughter.

Actors:
Sudeep is very good as an atheist. Amrutha Khanvilkar is pretty as housewife. Aswini Kalsekar is excellent as the eccentric black magic woman. Ahsaas Channa steals the show as the girl who is possessed. Zakir Hussain is superb with a scary get-up as the blind black magic specialist.

Technical departments:

Story - Screenplay - direction: Story of the film does deal with black magic. By balancing the story between the scientific aspect and supernatural aspect of the black magic, the director could sustain the interest among the audiences. Ram Gopal Varma never ventured out of way to create scariness by doing unnecessary scenes except for a couple of dream sequences (hero and the maid). The screenplay of the film is interesting. Direction of the film is good. And the characterizations are good.

Technical departments: Ram Gopal Varma extracted the best out of his technicians. Background music is very good. Cinematography is excellent. I liked the slow camera movements and the positioning of camera in most of the scenes. Dialogues are good. Art work is fine. He made sure that the soft toys chosen for the kids are weird so that it would help in creating scary ambiance. Most of the film is shot in two locations (house and construction site).

Analysis: In the beginning of his career, Ram Gopal Varma used to make horror thrillers just for the sake of scaring the audiences. He used to concentrate more on fear factor than the emotional quotient. But contrary to his earlier horror films, Ram Gopal Varma narrated this film more sensibly by not depending on unnecessary scenes in order the scare the people. Hence he mixed the thrill elements into the emotional aspect. Those people who expect lot of scariness in the film would find it little disappointing. The plus points of the film are technical aspects and sensible story telling. The negative point is the slow-paced narration. On a whole, Ram Gopal Varma's Phoonk is worth a watch if you like films of this genre.
