Amir Khan starrer comedy-drama 3 Idiots has grossed over Rs 315 crore ($70 million) globally in 19 days since its release, a statement by Reliance BIG Entertainment,the film's distributor, said Tuesday.Based on Chetan Bhagat's bestseller Five Point Someone, the film has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
"3 Idiots has opened new vistas for the Indian film industry. The huge response across continents reinforces our belief that a well-made, well-exploited film can still create magic in the darkened auditorium. We are proud to be associated with Vinod, Aamir, Raju and the talented team of 3 idiots," said Amit Khanna, chairman, Reliance BIG Entertainment.
Added Chopra: "I am thrilled and humbled that so many people all over the world have loved this film. It proves true Rancho's (the protagonist in the movie) mantra - chase excellence and success will follow."
Aamir echoed the sentiment, saying: "As a member of the team I am so happy with the kind of success that the film is achieving. Thanks to Raju (Hirani), for making the film so well, to Vinod for doing such a great job as a producer and to Reliance BIG Pictures for the kind of release they gave the film."
According to the statement, more that 60 million people have so far watched the film in theatres since its release Dec 25. Its box office collections have exceeded the over Rs.260 crore earned by another Aamir starrer, Ghajini, considered Hindi cinema's highest grosser till date.
3 Idiots is also being touted as the highest grossing Indian film ever to release in the US, Middle East, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Kenya and Fiji.
The film has retained its position in the top 10 film at the British Box Office and is also Aamir's biggest grosser so far and highest box office grosser of 2009. The screen count in the US for 3 Idiots has increased by 25 percent by the third week.
Indian multiplexes added on an average 14 to 21 new shows in the second week of the movie compared to its first week with 150 additional shows.
The paid previews of the movie also garnered over Rs.9 crore worldwide, above those of the paid preview collections of Ghajini that were Rs.7 crore globally.
The film also stars R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Aamir Khan is a thorough perfectionist. And the actor is currently concentrating on Ghajini which is going to be his next release after Tare Zameen Par. According to a unit hand, Ghajini is complete and therefore Murugadoss kept a special screening for Aamir. Apparently, after watching the film Aamir realized that some scenes require changes and he has asked the director to re-shoot those.
The director, Murugadoss who trusts Aamir’s instincts has agreed to make changes. A unit hand informs that Aamir is currently busy shooting for 3 Idiots. Also, shooting for Ghajini will mean that Aamir will have to sport the hairstyle required in the film. However, Aamir is sporting short hair these days and will need at least a month-and-a-half to get back in the required hairstyle. Thus the star will be able to re-shoot for Ghajini only in October.

You have often heard of superstar Rajinikanth and the talent icon Kamal Haasan who keep roaming around the streets sometimes or going to public places in disguises just so as to see if someone can spot them and also to see life among the real public in their surroundings. Now, here is one star who hails from Bollywood and has taken the same path.
He is none other than Aamir Khan who was in Hyderabad recently and came out with a well hatched plan like that. It is heard that he enjoyed his Biryani in Paradise restaurant it seems when he came here for the shooting of his film ‘Ghajini‘ but no one could recognize him as he came in the get up of a bearded Hyderabadi Muslim.
Doing something like what Kamal has done few times, Aamir looks to be treading the path of the legendary Haasan who is known for his perfection and variety in everything he does. Let us wait and see what more he does in the future. So next time you visit a premium place, make sure you look around to see if Aamir is sitting next to your table.

There is a popular saying in Bollywood that ‘Whatever Aamir ‘Perfectionist‘ Khan does, he does not follow any style, because whatever he does, simply becomes a style in itself‘. The latest one being that he has gone bald for his forthcoming film Ghajini, with the southern sensation Asin and the Bollywood hottie Jiah Khan paired opposite him.
He going bald had become the talk of the town for quite some time now. And the ‘day‘ decided was his Birthday, which eventually got postponed. Now the D-Day (or is it the B-Day- Bald Day) arrived on Thursday when ‘Mr. Perfect‘ Aamir ultimately bid good bye to his much loved hair, in the presence of his near and dear ones. And the person instrumental in this was the renowned celebrity hair stylist Avan Contractor, and the location was Aamir‘s residence in Bandra. The ‘USP‘ of this one and a half an hour ‘balding session‘ was that, at the end of it all, at the behest of Aamir, Avan created a scar with the razor on Aamir‘s head!
It looks quite ironical that it was the same Aamir who had gone full fledged with his locks in Mangal Pandey: The Rising. And now it is the same Aamir who has gone bald, though the common factor remains that both of these ‘hairstyles‘ were not an overnight decision. Aamir had spent lots of time working out on these looks.
So, please do not be surprised if you suddenly find the young men going bald. Because you know that the reason is not the summer, or the dandruff.
