Andhra Pradesh is back on the boil. Massive protests are being held at Osmania University against what appears to be a move by the Centre to put the statehood issue on the backburner.
There's a heavy police presence in the University campus. The police fired tear gas shells and lathicharged protestors.
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), which is spearheading the movement for a separate state of Telangana, has called a 48-hour bandh from Thursday to protest against the Centre's move.
The Telangana region, Hyderabad and nine other districts, are tense in the wake of the protests.
There are reports of many trains being stopped in Warangal. Pro-Telangana activists also disrupted the national kabaddi championship in Nalgonda. Jaganmohan Reddy's power plant near Karimnagar was also attacked.
On Wednesday night, the protesters threw stones at RTC and private buses plying near Osmania University campus. Police immediately rushed to the area and dispersed the mobs.
