How about Hyderabad as national capital?

Share

After failing to get an assurance from the Centre to drop the Telangana state formation demand and keep the state united, the Andhra and Rayalaseema leaders have come out with a fresh demand: make Hyderabad as a second national capital.

The coastal Andhra leaders who have now revived the Jai Andhra movement, are arguing that the people of Andhra have every right over Hyderabad, as they had contributed huge amounts in the form of taxes and investments for the development in and around the state capital. Hence, they want Hyderabad to be separated from Telangana and also Andhra.

“In the last 50 years, we have made a lot of investment in Hyderabad and its surroundings, which are now part of Greater Hyderabad. Now, the Telangana leaders are claiming that Hyderabad belongs to Telangana and wants to get out. We have no objection to formation of Telangana state, but at the same time, we cannot forego our right on Hyderabad. That is why we are demanding that Hyderabad should be made a union territory or a second capital of India,” former union minister Ch Harirama Jogaiah, a staunch votary of separate Andhra state, said at a meeting in Rajahmundry on Sunday.
