If there is one reason why India has been known for its culture and values, it is the code of marriage. For centuries, the system of marriage has been about living together for the rest of their lives and it also involved the man of the house being elder to the woman of the house by a decent margin of years. However, with the impact of the western culture and the tremendous influence of the media, the face of the society and also the code of weddings have been changing. Unfortunately, the question remains whether the two individuals involved have the right kind of maturity required to take a decision on life. Recently, the incident of police arresting and issuing a non bailable arrest warrant in the high school incident where the twenty plus year old teacher got married to a sixteen year old teenage student has caused quite a commotion and got many orthodox and conventional people thinking. As it is, teenage sex is a violation as per law and it leads to punishment if caught but there are several instances of teens getting involved in physical intimacy without proper awareness. This gets all of us to few fundamental questions- where is our culture and tradition heading? Or…is it actually being imbibed in the right way by the parents to their children? Are we losing a grip on the entire system of values and beliefs that has always kept us in high regard in front of the rest of the world? The causes for today’s generation getting drifted into oblivion could be many. Perhaps they should be enlightened on their attitude and must be told that they should act their age else it won’t be long before they end up ruining their lives and those around as well. Issues such as incest, pre-marital sex, voyeurism and many other aspects are now getting a strong presence due to the intense influence of media. So folks, it is not just the responsibility of the teens or the youth to do some introspection, it is also the duty of the elders and parents to stand firm on few codes of conduct and impart the same to the younger generation. Their hot blooded adrenaline may find it hard to accept few realities but that’s the real truth they must come to terms with so that they can have a better and guilt free future. |
