No one needs an introduction for a condom and its importance but let us have a small peek at its history. It is heard that condoms were invented by the Egyptians and it dates back to 1000 BC. The theory is that the word was derived from the word 'Condum' and this word was first used in a poem that came in the year 1706. While the versions are many, it is said that earlier condoms were made of Lamb intestine before latex took over. The 1800s saw a rapid growth in the usage of condom and ironically it was the US army that discouraged the use of condom during World War I and suggested abstinence. The first rubber condom came in the year 1855. One study says that developing countries like ours need close to 18.6 billion condoms by the year 2015.
