For the last three days, there have been reports about rampant corruption indulged by Nellore Mayor Bhanusree and so, when the Anti-Corruption Bureau authorities raided her house, everybody thought she would be booked.
However, the authorities did not touch the Mayor, but trapped her husband Siva Subba Raju, a divisional engineer with APTransco. All that the authorities could recover from him was assets worth Rs 90 lakhs, disproportionate to his income. “We have no orders to raid Bhanusree’s house. We have raided only her husband’s house,” the ACB authorities said, making media persons wondering whether both the houses were different.
Interstingly, there have been allegations that Bhanusree had amassed wealth to the extent of Rs 100 crore. But it has not come to the notice of the ACB authorities. All that they seized were the properties in the name of her husband. Bhanusree, who has the backing of Anam brothers, said the ACB raid had come as a blessing in disguise. “It has proved that all allegations against me are false,” she said.
