 Though the number of films being produced are on the higher side these days, a matter of concern has been the declining patronage for many theatres. Gaiety, one of the oldest theatres in Chennai, was the darling of English film goers once upon a time, has been converted into a studio. Old-timers still reminisce about the theatre and the ‘grand old days’. One consolation for this theatre is that it has not been demolished but has been converted into a big studio.
