With big stars not coming with their films regularly and taking rest, mass audiences in B and C centers are looking towards new icons. Gopichand seems to be the poster boy for them. He has already won their hearts with his mass-oriented flicks like Ranam and Lakshyam but the success of his recent film – Sowryam reinforces the fact that he has finally arrived.
Of the recent releases - Chintakayala Ravi (can be average grocer), Kotta Bangaru Lokam (just an above average flick in terms of business), etc, only Sowryam is doing extremely fine business in small towns and rural areas. Although Sowryam is not a sophisticated flick and lacks novelty, the film’s rock steady business surprises even trade pundits.

Sowryam can be a very decent money spinner in these hard times. “Now we can easily bet Rs 15 Crores on Gopi’s film without thinking much,” says a producer. Is Gopi the new icon for mass audiences? It remains to be seen.
