Shah Rukh plans to sell Knight Riders

After dropping "Kolkata" from Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders, actor Shah Rukh Khan has started discussions with Nokia, Sahara, the Anil Ambani group, and several other companies to sell the team he bought just over a year ago for Rs 300 crore (Rs 3 billion), and exit the business. According to sources in Red Chillies Entertainment, KKR's holding company, "Shah Rukh Khan has been trying to sell a stake in KKR for some time now. But since most companies he approached also wanted management control, Khan is now talking to Nokia, Sahara, Anil Ambani and others to sell his entire shareholding."

 

Khan's public relations officer, however, said she would not be able to confirm the development because she had not met the actor. None of those who have reportedly been approached confirmed the development. Sahara India's communications director Abhijit Sarkar said: "We have not been approached by Shah Rukh Khan yet. But if he does, we would be happy to buy the team." D Shivakumar, vice-president and managing director (markets), Nokia India, sent a text message saying: "Shah Rukh Khan will keep the team."

 

A Reliance Communications spokesperson declined to comment. "A lot of people negotiate with Anil Ambani. I cannot comment unless there is something concrete on table." According to the Red Chillies official, Khan wants to exit, owing to the team's poor performance -- so far the team has won only one rain-curtailed game under the Duckworth Lewis method--and rising costs.  "If the Board for Control of Cricket in India does not increase the number of teams for next year, Khan could get double what he paid," said the Red Chillies official. Khan is supposed to pay Rs 30 crore (Rs 300 million) per year for the next 10 years. The total annual cost for the team is about Rs 75 crore (Rs 750 million).

 

Khan had earlier said that KKR was easily the most successful IPL franchise, making a Rs 13 crore (Rs 130 million) profit last year. However, his costs trebled last year owing to interventions from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Cricket Association of Bengal.  According to initial calculations, Red Chillies had to pay Rs 90 lakhs (Rs 9 million) per match and was supposed to earn Rs 3 crore if all stadium tickets were sold at Eden Gardens. Red Chillies had to pay Rs 20 lakhs (Rs 2 million) to the police and municipal tax of Rs 500,000. So its expenses per match would have been over Rs 1 crore (Rs 10 million). But this figure had trebled.

 

Last year, however, Kolkata Police demanded Rs 2 crore as security fees, against Rs 50 lakhs (Rs 5 million) that the organisers of the IPL offered. Then, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation demanded Rs 25 lakhs (Rs 2.5 million) from Red Chillies as amusement tax for holding IPL matches at Eden Gardens. To settle the dispute between Kolkata Police and the IPL organisers over the cost of security arrangements at Eden Gardens, Red Chillies Entertainment had to agree to pay Rs 75 lakhs (Rs 7.5 million) as security fees.

Prakash Raj to play LTTE chief Prabhakaran in new film

 
Bangalore (IANS): Multilingual actor Prakash Raj says he has been offered the role of LTTE chief Vellupillai Prabhakaran in a Tamil film and that he will be doing it.
 
"I would like to perform the role according to the dictates of the script and requirement of the director. I will not do any homework or prepare for this role in details as I think spontaneity will provide better results than anything," said the actor at an interactive session organised by the Karnataka Film Journalists Association.
 
But he refused to reveal the name of the director and producer of the proposed film.
 
This is not the first time that Prakash Raj is playing a real life character. He has won three National Awards and 18 state awards for his high voltage performances as young M. Karunanidhi, DMK president and the current Tamil Nadu chief minister, in Mani Ratnam’s "Iruvar" and faction leader Rayalaseema in director Krishna Vamshi’s "Anthapuram".
 
"Acting career is like a journey to me. Acting has been a process of learning to me. You learn many things while interacting with many people. I think any actor will gain confidence and maturity with experience. Working with different directors and the best of the actors make you determined to give the best shot," he said.

Another flop movie of Balaya is ready for release

The movie is said to be filled with some double meaning dialogues which are common in Balaya movies. Priyamani who created waves in tollywood by donning a bikini in one of her latest releases will be seen in modern outfits in this film. The main highlight of the movie will be a wet song which is a duet in between Priyamani and Balakrishna. NTR who severly injured in road accident when is returning from his political road show is advised for another two months rest. He will only join the shoot of his current movie from July.

Sonu with Prabhas

Popular Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has been roped in to don yet another negative role opposite Prabhas in his second Telugu film titled Ek Niranjan, which marks the Telugu debut of Bollywood beauty Kangna Ranaut. (Sonu Sood recently played a terrifying ghost in Arundhati (Arundhatee in Tamil), which turned out to be one of the biggest grossers in the history of Telugu cinema.) Directed by Puri Jagannath and produced by Aditya Ram under the banner of AdityaRam Movies, Ek Niranjan recently started rolling at Lahari Park in Hyderabad. The first ceremonial shot was filmed on Prabhas and Kangna Ranaut. Touted to be an out-and-out commercial movie, Ek Niranjan gives equal importance to romance, action, fun and emotion, director Puri said.
Ek Niranjan will complete production in a single schedule that continues till July. Also in the cast are Mukhul Dev, Tanikella Bharani, Brahmanandam, Posani Krishna Murali, Ali and Sunil. Mani Sharma has scored the music; cinematography is by Shyam K Naidu; editing is by M.R. Varma; art is by Chinna.
Meanwhile, Sonu Sood is just back from Dubai after completing his portion in director Ali Mustafa's international venture City Of Life produced by Filmworks (USA). The movie centres on the lives of three people – a European, an Arab and an Indian. Sonu plays the role of Basu, a Dubai-based taxi-driver who dreams of becoming an actor one day. The other roles are played by Alexandra Maria Lara and Saoud Al Kaabi. The film is expected to be a breakthrough for Sonu Sood in the international arena.

Ananthapuram 1980 will release on May1

Smitha Mathew [April 23, 2009, 12:43:31 PM] Ananthapuram 1980, the Telugu remake of the Tamil super hit Subramaniapuram is ready for release. The film, which tells the story of five youngsters who get trapped in politics, was a big hit in Tamil Nadu.
Swathi of Ashtachemma fame is the hero while Sasikumar, the director of Ananthapuram 1980, plays the lead role also. The Telugu version is being produced by M. Ranganath under the banner of  Simhapuri Talkies.
Jai, Ganja Karuppu, Samudhirakani and others are in the main cast. James Vasanthan is music director while lyrics are penned by Vennelakanti. Dialogues are written by Shashank Vennelakanti. The film will release on May1.

Deepika approached for Arundhati?

Baiju NT [April 23, 2009, 2:17:49 PM] Bollywood model-turned-actress Deepika Padukone has been reportedly approached to don the title role in the Hindi remake of Tollywood blockbuster Arundhati (Arundhathee in Tamil). The discussions are on, but nothing has been finalized yet!
Earlier, the makers had approached Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi actress Anushka Sharma, who was later dropped, since she was still under contract with her mentor Yash Raj.
After Anushka Sharma, another name considered for the role was Anushka, the original heroine of Arundhati. Considering that Anushka is an unknown face in Bollywood, the makers decided to opt for a more popular young actress in Bollywood. That's is how Deepika came into the scene.
Some sources indicate that Kajol Devgan and Rani Mukherjee were also considered for the title role, while Amitabh Bachchan is reportedly being approached to play the character enacted by Sayaji Shinde in Telugu. Meanwhile, it is confirmed that Sonu Sood, who played the main antagonist in Telugu, will repeat the same part in Hindi as well.
M. Shyam Prasad Reddy, producer of the Telugu version, has decided to remake the film in Hindi, though many producers, including Ghajini’s Madhu Mantena, were vying for the Hindi remake rights. Remake expert Priyadarshan was initially approached to direct Arundhathi in Hindi, but Priyan apparently has no time to spare at such short notice.

This may be the first election he is fighting, but if Praja Rajyam chief Chiranjeevi is a confident man, it’s because of the solid support system his family offers him. They idolise him, have tremendous faith in his abilities and have all come together like an army that’s called to war, geared up to fight for him. From Chiranjeevi’s producer brother-in-law, Allu Aravind, to Aravind’s son and film actor, Allu Arjun, to his own son, daughters, wife and extended family members, everyone is now sweating blood for the success of the Praja Rajyam. Even his younger daughter Srija, who he had a fallout with following her marriage, is welcomed back in the fold and is working towards her dad’s victory.

 

Allu Aravind, considered the driving force behind Chiru’s political plunge, has been playing a key role in the party ever since its inception. And since canvassing for the elections have begun, Aravind hasn’t left Chiru’s side even for a minute. “Though our bodies are different, our soul is one. I love him a lot,” says Aravind, rather dramatically. The megastar’s two actor brothers, Nagendra Babu and Pavan Kalyan, are his other pillars of support. The duo have taken charge of the situation since day one. Speaking about his wife’s contribution to his political career, Chiranjeevi says, “I can never forget the encouragement, help and support she’s given at every turn in my life. In fact, I decided to contest from the Tirupati only because she wanted it so. My family’s support shows their affection towards me.”

Meanwhile, according to the latest film nagar grapewnie, Srinu Vaitla’s movie with Venky was presently paused due to some budget reasons. But it may again resume its shooting from May 1st week. The shooting of Venky and Trivikram Combo will be starting from September this year.

According to sources, a script has been finalized which deals with a young man visiting Mumbai city. Fortunately, Venky falls in love with a Hindi film star and then starts a twist to the story.

Some sources reveal that Priyanka Chopra has been finalized for the role and she has given her 45 day call sheet to complete the movie. If all goes ell accordingly, then the movie may be released in December.

Siddardh in Oy Siddradh is turning 30 on April 17th. Like always he celebrates his birthday on Friday with his family and friends only. No parties and hungama. Kamal Haasan’s 'Eenadu' is under progress

Kamal Haasan and Venkatesh starrer bilingual Eenadu has commenced its regular shoot today (Tuesday, April 7, 2009) at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. The film is shot both in Telugu and Tamil. In Telugu version Kamal and Venky are playing lead roles while in Tamil Malayalam superstar Mohan Lal replaces Venky’s character. 

The film is remake of Hindi super hit, A Wednesday. Newcomer Chakri (who played the role of photographer in Sagara Sangamam) is directing it using latest camera technology - RED digital cameras. The film is jointly produced by Kamal Hasan’s Raj Kamal banner and UTV Studios. Suresh Productions might take up distribution for Telugu version or present the movie.

Shriya is back in Hyd for 'Pista'

Sexy Shriya is back to Hyderabad after a long gap. She is in town shooting for Pista with Vishal. The movie is shot both in Tamil (Toranai is the title in Tamil) and Telugu by a new director Sabha Ayyappa. It is slated for May 14th release. Says Vishal: “We have shot the movie almost 30 days in Hyderabad and finishing it off very soon. The best part of this flick, it has lots of entertainment. For the first time, we are using many comedians from Telugu. Ali, Krishna Baghavan, Kondavalasa and other comedians are working with me. And I am happy to act with beautiful Shriya in this movie.”
 
He also explained he reason for putting such arrogant title. “It actually denotes the characterization of the protagonist. There is also a confrontation scene between Prakash Raj and me which shows off how ‘Pista’ that I am in the movie. I indulge in mind games than bashing up the villains here,” he said.
Shriya said she is happy to back to shooting here. “As Vishal said, it is going to very entertaining movie and a good romantic movie.”

Ram Charan too joins ‘political canvassing’

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan too joins the bandwagon of political-stars. Till now, Chiranjeevi denied the entry of his Ram Charan into politics these elections but with competition heating up, he has finally succumbed to the pressure. Ram Charan will join the Praja Rail – a new campaign tour by Chiranjeevi in a train from Secunderabad to Tirupati. Ram Charan will be addressing the public at key stations and towns over the journey. Already Pawan Kalyan, Naga Babu and Allu Arjun are already participating in political canvassing and now the young star in the family also joins them.

'Rakta Charitra' in Hindi

Few months ago, Ram Gopal Varma announced that he would be producing a film, Rakta Charitra, on the life and times of faction leader Late Paritala Ravi. He made it clear that the movie would be made in Telugu in the direction of newcomers Dharma - Rakha. But Varma has changed his plans; he scrapped the project in Telugu and has taken up it in Hindi. He has decided to direct himself in Hindi with the same title. What made Ramu to make it in Hindi from Telugu? “Well, Ravi was one of the most feared individuals in the history of the blood-smeared faction politics of South India. I have read biographies of many dangerous men, including that of Velupalli Prabhakaran, the LTTE chief, to Pablo Escobar, the Columbian drug lord, to Dawood Ibrahim. But all those stories pale in comparison to that of Ravi’s. So I felt his story would appeal to larger section of audiences,” RGV said. The shooting will commence from August this year. Currently, Ram Gopal Varma is directing India 24X7 (earlier it was called ‘Rann’), a film on media world. On other hand, his thriller, Agyaat, (Agnatham in Telugu), with Nitin and Nisha Kotari, is getting released shortly. He will start shooting Rakta Charitra from August. Two parts.. For the first time in India, Ram Gopal Varma is planning to release a single film in two parts within a gap of two months. “Rakta Charitra needs to be told in exhaustive manner. So the running time exceeds about 5 hours. So I am planning to release it in two parts – Rakta Charitra 1 and Rakta Charitra 2 in a three months gap,” he reasons. A Hindi hero will be doing the lead role as Partitala Ravi.
