'FAN' Wars

By and large the Diamond Jubilee celebrations are gaining notoriety instead of popularity for the very reason that fans of Chiranjeevi and Mohanbabu are creating hell in streets in different places Andhra Pradesh. No need to mention of the places. Wherever the fans of a particular hero are present, they start burning the effigies or photo papers of the other hero. The fans are so crazy that they don’t even care for the peace efforts by both their heroes, on television screens. Chiranjeevi and Mohanbabu appealed to their fans not to indulge in such activities. Mohanbabu says what ever they spoke during the Diamond Jubilee festival was the internal matter of the festival and this is not the issue, any thing to do with fans. “We (me and Chiranjeevi) are friends for more than three decades. We acted together in many films and continue visit each other’s houses to attend any festivities held in each others houses”, said Mohanbabu. Chiranjeevi too appealed to fans that what they were doing was wrong and he even saluted his fans and appealed to stop this and don’t bring shame to the many social service activities they were involved. Nobody said anything about me nor I said anything that insults Mohanbabu. Please direct all these efforts in undertaking more such service activities. So also said Pawan Kalyan, representing his elder brother saying that the acts they were resorting to is causing a lot of pain to his ‘Annayya’. The younger blood of that family and raising hero Allu Aravind’s son, Arjun too said the same on his visit to the injured persons admitted into hospital adds a line after consoling them. But on a question, he added they won’t keep quiet if some thing is said against Chiranjeevi.

There were days when fans of NTR and ANR were dabbing the posters of their heroes with cow dung. There were also days when the fans of other heroes also resorted to street fights, in olden days which included stabbing. Krishna went on record that he did not even know where and who started his ‘Krishna Sena’. All these issues point out at the fans’ lack of understanding and taking law into their own hands even without the knowledge of their heroes. In fact this fall out after that huge function held for three days and telecast by Maa TV, has blurred the total mission behind holding the Diamond Jubilee of the Telugu cinema. Today people only remember this side effect than more the main function, blurring the whole festival. Hope this kind of ugly reaction of fans of both artistes should end now.

Added to that there are reports from Hyderabad Film chamber, demanding the organizers to give an account of what they collected and what they spent and on what. The orginazing committee quickly responded stating that this part of expenditure is no body’s business and nobody has right to ask. This is also their private business. Any way there are governmental sources to whom they are responsible. This followed the tirade against press by the secretary K.S.Rama Rao.

Who is a ‘legend’ and who is ‘celebrity’?

The whole thing began with Mohanbabu questioning the organizers what did they mean by ‘Legend’ and ‘Celebrity’. Many gave their mind on this in press and outside. A legend is one whose legacy continues from his life time to the other generation after him or her. Ghatasala is a legend for example. The word celebrity is a common word used to almost all in the film field, especially. Celebrities are those who are being watched day in and day out by people of those fields and also others, from the positive sense. That celebrity ends with his life. He turns into a legend when his memory and work continues even in the next generation.
