First day, First show…I was initially apprehensive about going to Pavan Kalyan’s movie as I did not have any particular opinion about him and moreover there were the crazy fan associations to think of. But finally we landed at the theatre totally enticed by Devi’s rocking tunes. The cool songs and energetic beats had me wishing to check out the picturization as soon as possible and BOY, it sure was awesome. Trivikram, the director truly knows how to captivate his audience. In this movie we have Pavan jiving with 3 dames and bashing up villains with equal ease.

So starting off with the hero- Pavan excels in his role of an ex-naxalite who’s trying to lead a normal life and u’ve got to believe he actually has 3 degrees in the flick!!! He underplays his character and the story gives him optimum space to showcase varied emotions (after many days you actually get to see his acting prowess). The comedy scenes featuring him, Prakash Raj and Brahmanandam are the highlights.

You also get to see trivikram’s trademark fights (with the villains oozing blood at every possible opportunity) and the punch lines are perfect. Kaamalinee Mukherji features in a short cameo as pavan’s first love and she looks really cute. Parvati Melton doesn’t have much to do either but she does look sophisticated and suave. The toast of the movie is Ileana. This girl from Goa gets a very decent role and she manages to look innocent and sexy at the same time. Her habit of ‘being 10secs late every time’ is funny and her expressions and acting sure have improved a lot.

The music is another thing to rant and rave about- Devi has definitely matched up to his previous superhit audios like bommarillu and varsham. He gives us very fresh and fun songs and u’ll find urself humming them in no time. There are no double entendres and it’s nice to see that there haven’t been too many censor cuts either. The climax actually comes as a surprise and those who expect a dhamaka fight in the end could be disappointed. Mahesh babu’s voiceover suits the entire situation especially when there are any intense scenes. So he probably could take up this job too.

I wouldn’t like to reveal the story line as the movie has released only today and any spills could spoil the enjoyment.

It’s a movie worth watching with the whole family and I can still find myself recalling some of the dialogues and laughing out loud. Go watch it and have fun. It’s not always that u get to watch 3 heroines with one hero in a clean entertainer!!!

Jalsa, strictly for Pawan Kalyan's fans

Trivikram Srinivas's Midas touch has apparently hit a road block with his much hyped Telugu film starring Pawan Kalyan's Jalsa.

The film is neither an out and out Pawan Kalyan's film nor that of the ace director, who has given us some good hits in the past. While Trivikarm was successful in giving Mahesh Babu's flagging career a new lease of life with Athadu, he has failed to do the same for Pawan Kalyan.

First of all, there is no proper storyline and the screen play is totally disjointed making it seem like the director was in two minds while making the film -- one, to have his own brand of comedy which he is famous and two, to showcase Pawan Kalyan's abilities as an action hero.

This balancing act however has not paid off. For one thing, everything is shown in frivolous light, even serious subjects like law and order and naxalism are treated with scant respect. Apparently he did not do his homework.

The story is about a protagonist, Sanjay Sahu (Pawan Kalyan), an alcoholic who downs several pegs without batting an eyelid. He has a penchant for adding degrees (academics) and is in love with his colleague (Kamalinee Mukherjee). However, the girl's father is not in favour of the alliance and gets her married to another guy.

Parallel to this runs another story, that of villian Mukesh Rushi. He is a factionist who turns land grabber. He nurses an enmity towards Sanjay and the reason behind this is held back almost towards the fag end of the film.

Meanwhile Sanjay has two other girls falling for him -- Jyotsna (Parvati Melton) and Bhaghi (Illeana). The hero goes for Illeana, who is supposedly innocent to the extent of being ignorant. Sanjay is rejected once again. Incidentally Bhagi is the sister of Kamilini Mukerjee.

Meanwhile, the villain tries to corner Sanjay by kidnapping one of his cronies. However, Sanjay emerges successfully from this bind and it is at this point that another important facet of Sanjay's character is revealed -- that he was a reformed naxalite.

While one expects a decent turn to the film at this point, alas, the screenplay continues to drag.

Trivikarm's penchant to bring in comedy at every turn has failed to pay off. The travails of Sanjay and his family, hailing from a remote village are depicted in a passing manner. And the reasons for Sanjay's decision to join the mainstream are also not very clear.

Prakash Raj as the police officer appears a caricature and so is Brahmanandam, who is depicted as a head constable. The enmity between the hero and the villain is also not very well established.

Ali, Sunil, and Dharmavarapu in comedy cameos are okay. Illeana looks pretty as the rather not so bright girl, while Parvati Melton in her brief role sizzles.

Pawan Kalyan has done his job but he could have done better. His character lacks depth.

Music by Devi Sri Prasad is good and so is the choreography. The voice-over by actor Mahesh Babu is very good, too.

All in all, Trivikram's Jalsa is no great shakes. Strictly for Pawan Kalyan's hardcore fans

Jalsa: Movie Review

Pawan Kalyan’s Jalsa opened to huge crowds on Wednesday. Labeled as the most awaited movie of the season it is no surprise that Jalsa was surrounded by immense hype and hoopla.

Did live up to the expectations? Well, the question can only be answered after a few days when the hype gets settled down and the normal cinegoers start hitting the theatres.
For now, the film has generated divided talk all over especially in the mass centers. However, this can't be the deciding factor for the fate of the film as this film is a truly class act… directed at families and youth audience. Of course the title itself suggests what the film will offer and yes, you can do Jalsa in the theatres as the film entertains you all the way.
Other than a few glitches in the screenplay Jalsa does what it is intended to do. The main drawback of the film is raising the naxalism topic and also canning a few scenes on that point. Though the idea is good it does not fit into the mood of the film. Although the entire episode lasts hardly for 15 minutes it has shown impact on the film heavily. Especially, with that episode the jovial and fun loving protagonist Sanjay Sahu's characterization dropped down and in turn has left many loopholes in the script.
Music is lilting to the ears and the picturization stands out in U & I, Karo Karo Jalsa songs. Action part is another plus point. None of the fights last long, but they had the necessary “Power” punch!
Pawan Kalyan is at his best in Sanjay Sahu's role. He did marvelous job in playing the role tailor made for him. His antics and mannerisms will be a treat to his fans, and they will feel that Khushi days are back. Ileana is cute. Parwati Melton is ok. Mukesh Rushi is terrific as the antagonist. Prakash Raj does his usual self. Furthermore, the ever green comedian Brahmanandam has another feather in his cap as hilarious Pranav! Sunil too tickles your funny bone.
Not to forget the Superstar Mahesh who lent his voice for this film and his work is as sweet as Jalsa. He has to be commended.
Trivikram once again proves that he is the “dialogs guru” of Tollywood. He did a splendid job as a writer. His direction skills are good too but have to concentrate on screenplay writing.
On a whole Jalsa is a cool entertainer in this hot summer. Leave your brains at home and enjoy the fun ride. Mind you, this film is only meant for class movie lovers. Jalsa doesn’t have the necessary masala for routine mass film lovers

Story

Sanjay Sahu (Pawan Kalyan) is a happy-go-lucky type youth. Bhagyamati (Ileana) falls in love with him and Sanjay accepts her proposal after waiting for a while. Meanwhile, the men of Damodara Reddy (Mukesh Rishi) -a factionist operating from a jail - keep hunting for Sanjay Sahu. The rest of the story is all about why Damodar Reddy is after Sanjay and how Sanjay reacts to it.

Artists Performance

Pawan Kalyan: Pavan Kalyan is extremely energetic as Sanjay Sahu. He did fresh dialogue modulation to create good humor. Everybody had a doubt about Pawan Kalyan performing to the Trivikram's punches and I must say that Pawan Kalyan excelled in getting the Trivikram dialogues right. He did not mind uttering satire on his 'pulla kallu'. He also did fights really well. Pawan Kalyan is looking dashing in Che Guevera get-up during his naxalite days.

Mahesh Babu: Mahesh Babu should be commended for giving voiceover to the narration of the film. It is a very good gesture by Mahesh Babu and this kind of culture augurs well for the Telugu film industry. Mahesh Babu did it in his usual style with an undercurrent wit.

Heroines: Ileana did the role of confused and dumb girl. She is alright. It is a passive role for such a vivacious actress like Ileana. Parvati Melton is sexy to the extent that she dominated Ileana in all the scenes where they were together. Kamalinee Mukherjee did a cameo and she is good. Actor Sivaji did a small role.

Others: Brahmanandam will have you in splits again in the second half of this film for some time. Mukesh Rishi is very good as a villain with a different get-up. Prakash Raj is ok as the father of the heroine. Sunil is nice. Ali and Dharmavarapu are adequate.

Technical Departments:

Story - screenplay - direction: The basic storyline of the film is wafer-thin. It is a love story of a reformed naxalite who is forced to confront a bad man. Trivikram excelled in dialogue department and penned many episodes catering to comedy segment. But as a script writer, he failed to do justice to the texture of the film. The film is pretty neat in terms of the comedy department. But he could not fix the narrative into any one particular genre. The screenplay should have been better. The director who made hero reveal about his downtrodden past and social commitment through the dialogues before interval could not match it with the characterization of hero in the second half. Trivikram did very good in technical aspects in terms of sets, camera angle etc.

The following scenes are pretty impressive:

1. Pawan Kalyan antics while meeting Prakash Raj with proposal for twice.
2. Pawan Kalyan splitting milk with Brahmanandam
3. Pawan Kalyan giving 10 rupees note to Brahmanandam. (best comedy thread in the entire film)

The following scenes seem to have got inspired by some other films

1. Mukesh Rishi calling off hero assassination at the last minute (Bill calling Elle Driver back when she is about to inject poison in the body of Uma Thurman)
2. Pawan Kalyan – Prakash Raj jungle episode (Noman's land and Kabul Express)
3. Sivaji's food allergy (Hitch film)

Other departments: Dialogues are superb. Music by Devi Sri Prasad is very good. Background score is also nice. All the songs are picturized in an attractive manner. However, Jennifer Lopez song appears to have been inserted just for the sake of Parvati Melton. Jalsa title song is placed during the climax of the film instead of the beginning. Cinematography is very good. Editing is cool. Fights are composed well. Production values of the film are extravagant.


Analysis: First half of the film is packed with nice entertainment though there is no story. The second half should have been better. The plus points of the film are Pawan Kalyan, hilarious dialogues and rich technical values. The negative points are screenplay, naxalite element and excessive runtime. There is no justification to the title 'Jalsa'. On a whole, you may consider watching Jalsa for the comedy episodes in the film.

Lo and behold, Jalsa is very clearly spicing up the filmy atmosphere. If the film meets the huge hype created, then surely the producers of Jalsa will laugh all thier way to the bank. The question that arises now is, how much will the film garner, will it be bigger than Pokiri? Will Jalsa surge ahead pushing back Pokiri's collections?

The film will be hitting screens on April 2nd. The craze and hungama is mounting with each passing day. Newspapers are carrying special pullouts and news channels are beaming programs. Trade pundits predict now that if the film gets talk in the range of 'above average' to 'hit', Jalsa will redefine the Telugu film's potentiality. Some further add that if there is any film that has potential to beat the record set by Mahesh Babu's Pokiri that collected more than Rs 50 Crores, it ought to be this extravagant Jalsa.

Pawan has not had any hits of late. His last hit film was Khushi. But Pawan's films never ran on loss, his so-called dud collected between Rs 15 to 20 crore. "If a flop film collects such revenues, imagine if Jalsa gets hit talk what would be its range. I am sure it will beat Pokiri's records," said Srinivas, a fan.

It remains to be seen whether it would cross the collections of Pokiri that made the entire nation sit up and notice our Telugu Cinema potentiality.

Jalsa, which ripped out huge expectations thanks to the heavy promotional strategies, including a Game show. Pawan Kalyan, after a long time, came with Kushi-like mannerisms. Racy stunts, similar songs and music for all numbers, scenes shuttling between the hero and villain, sporadic comedy is all about Jalsa. Levels of entertainment are Good

Synopsis:

Sanjay Sahu (Pawan Kalyan) hails from a poor rural family at remote village in Karimnagar district . His brother dies of heart disease as a child. His father commits suicide as crops fail and his mother too is no more soon. While going to burial ground, he repeatedly slips and swoons at a stone pillar. He plucks it out, which enrages the henchmen of a land-grabber Damodar Reddy (Mukesh Rishi). When they attack him, Sahu beats them to near-death, and disappears into a forest and joins the naxalites. During a combing operation, Sahu and a police officer (Prakash Raj) meet each other and become good companions under strange circumstances. Sahu comes to Hyderabad and duly rehabilitated as a college student. The police officer's younger daughter Bhagi aka Bhagmati (Ileana) falls in love with Sahu. However, the cop is not willing to sing his daughter's marriage with Sahu, whom he thinks as a carefree youth without commitments. Meanwhile, Damodar Reddy is out on a vengeance mission against Sahu, as his lands are distributed among the rural poor by the naxalites. Now, the police officer wants to get his daughter married to a decent young man (Sivaji), but he soon realizes that he is none other than the younger son of Damodar Reddy. How does Sahu accomplish the task of undoing Reddy's attacks and winning the hand of Bhagi? It forms the climax.

Performance:

Pawan Kalyan steals the show from the start to finish. He shoulders the entire responsibility of doing something now and then to create the mood of Jalsa. However, his characterization suffers from reaching a full dimension. The hero falling in love with the elder daughter of a police officer and later asking the same man to give his younger daughter might sound funny, but is a blot coming to hero's characterization. After the interval bang, everybody expects some serious action on the part of the hero. All there are three heroines – Ileana, Kamalinee Mukherjee and Parvati Melton. All of them are strictly limited to oomph-less glamour, with some saving grace from Ileana. Parvati Melton looked too heavy besides Pawan Kalyan. Mukesh Rishi played the hardcore villain of the piece. But, his villainy is dramatic. Prakash Raj appears as a police officer (SP). Sivaji as usual did a small role as a bridegroom. You have comedians – Sunil, Brahmanandam and Ali. But, there are lot of scenes to tickle our ribs.

Technical Details:

Mahesh Babu's voice over is good. Coming on three occasions, the voiceover becomes a major deviation. Though it is used in a serious tone, the episodes and the happenings later do not match the tone.

Dialogues are Good. The hero refers to the name of Chiru on a couple of occasions aiming his verbal attack against the henchmen of his rival. He also sings the song – Nenu Saitham. At the interval bang, his long dialogue delivery – taking deep breaths now and then – resembles of the actor's recent outburst in TV channels, targeting the corruption in society. There is a punch-full on the road conditions in the state at the climax.

Music by Devi Sri Prasad sounds the good & people enjoyed a lot in all songs.

Stunts are good but routine in all sequences. The episode, in which the hero plucks the stone pillar and attacks the baddies, is a good watch, packed with emotion too.

Comedy is Good. Brahmanandam's role turns miserable and gives a painful touch in comedy – Sunil-Ileana-Dharmavarrapu episodes are Good.

Final Verdict :

Jalsa is good and you will enjoy a lot till the end of the movie.
