When looked at its Tamil title ‘Vinnathandi Varuvaya’, I understood it means ‘vennela daati vastaava’…sounded something interesting. At the same time I understood it’s a movie just for a set of audiences but not for everyone. I entered the theatre carrying the same opinion and also doubted a bit if I fall in that ‘set of audience those may like this flick’. I was looking the blank white screen in front of me and the censor certificate appeared. Yes, the movie started. The titles started rolling…but in a very different fashion where I haven’t seen so far. The taste of director is understood for showing creativity even in that minute detail. And I didn’t carry away with that. I have many experiences of watching many bad movies those started with interesting things…After 10-15 minutes, I understood that I’m getting disconnected from the narration. I didn’t understand what I was watching. Was that a documentary on interstate love? Or a video on Kerala Tourism? Or a Malayalam learning class? I also heard some murmurs from back seats. The Re-Recording didn’t appeal at all. It sounded like a 10 year old TV serial. Every aspect started appearing disappointing and erratic for me. But don’t know what magic worked, I have forgotten myself after a while. It’s a saga into nostalgia. It’s a journey into feel. It’s an odyssey into a passionate pleasure of life. Verdant Kerala, vibrant songs, jubilant age, vigilant father, elegant heroine, radiant hero and latent mood started dancing in symphony holding my heart strings. That was a blissful moment from then. Samanta…!! The gal is like a madrigal. She is gifted with poetic features and she has very bright future.  Goutam Menon placed her on right platform. Her poetic eyes, expressive lips, impressive looks and every aspect of her histrionics proved that she is a beauty with talent. Naga Chaitanya deserves very good commendations for his portrayal. He has shown maturity just in his second movie…Still he needs to grow, but for the role of a hero who is two year younger than heroine, he did right justice and none other would have grooved in the role so well. However, he must flex his face muscles to show the pain and emotion in romantic sequences in his future flicks. His dialogue delivery is good and he has a positive body language. This is a mature performance from him. Krishnudu did his bit as required, Surekha Vani was standard, Sanjay Swarup was okay, Devan didn’t have much to do, Puri Jagannadh was natural, the others contributed effectively with their performances. Dialogues by Anuradha are very natural and clear. There is no drama but truth in every word penned by her. She too has bright future as scrip writer. Well, Naga Chitanya plays the role of Karthik and Samanta plays Jessie. Karthik (Chaitu) is an engineering pass out whose aim is to become a movie maker. His life takes a turn with the arrival of Jesse (Samantha), the Christian girl of the landlord Joseph (Devan). It is love at first sight for Karthik and despite the age gap and other barriers, he is blindly after her. A game of touch me not happens and Jesse says yes to him. But what lies in store for Karthik is unexpected and how his life takes a turn after that forms the rest of the story. AR Rehman clean bowled every one with his songs. Goutam Menon did real ‘maya’!! This is the movie that should be watched not with eyes but with nostalgia. This is the movie that should be understood not with brains but with hearts. Purely, this movie appeals those who have crossed their Graduate studies, Engineering studies, MBBS, MCAs and MBAs. This master piece pulls the senses of audiences with its magic despite they sit with resistance to get lured. It’s the film for class audience those are in the age group 25 ++. The second half is better than first half and the magic worked till the last. The last 15 minutes is very predictable for Telugu audience but still captivating. The closing of the film is very convincing and creative. Appearance of Trisha and Simbu in last scene attracts attention and boosts up interest. It’s a very genuine script and honest attempt. Goutam is so lucky to find producers for making a film of this sort without demanding for so-called commercial elements which have been the part of cine-religion…high voltage fights, exposing heroines and vulgar dialogues. This movie gives strength for new writers those pen scripts with honesty deep from their hearts. ‘Ye Maya Chesaave’ is an example for a standard of a movie when it goes on to screen directly from heart without any adulteration. It’s a tender nostalgic ray That hits hearts and paves way What else should I say? Than telling you to watch Ye Maya Chesaave…!!

My analysis: Chintakayala Ravi is a decent family, love and comedy entertainer with all the required sattiers and attiers. It is an out and out Venkatesh movie with all his typical style of acting. We get to see a lot of comedy from him in the beginning and a lot of sentiment in the end like his earlier family entertainers Raja, Kalisundam Raa, Premante Idera, Adavari Matalaku Arthale Verule etc.

Director Yogesh and script writer Kona Venkat aptly prepared a script for Venkatesh and in turn Venkatesh just lived in the character. Both Kona Venkat and Yogi brought out the best of Venkatesh in this movie and utilized his acting talents to the maximum. It is surely the best romantic entertainer in Venkatesh career as said by him.

Chintakayala Ravi is surely going to be a hit in all “A” centres and among all lady audiences. They are going to just love this movie as it has a lot of mother sentiment in it. It is also going to be a hit because there are no other big star movies during the dusserra festival holidays and also in the near future.

Performances: Venkatesh is the soul of this movie. He didnt act but just lived in the character of Chintakalya Ravi (just  jeevinchadu). He was the best in comedy scenes and also in the emotional scenes. The audience will remember his Raja climax action when seeing the climax of Chintakayala Ravi. His dressess and glasses are asusual the best. He looks good in all the modern and fashionable dresses. A special mention about his elongated goatee should be made here. It gave him a real cool and stylish look and also matched the looks of all Indian youth living in US who try to look stylish and different.

Heroines Anushka and Mamtha Mohandas are not just used for songs unlike in other movies. They also have equal and important characterization in the movie along with Venkatesh. They both form a vital part of the movie. Yogi made use of the acting talents of both the heroines and not their body talent making it a family entertainer and not a youth entertainer.

Lakshmi, Chandra Mohan, MS Narayana, Shiyyaji Shinde and Chalapathi Rao were good as the parents of Venkatesh, Mamtha Mohandas and Anushka respectively.

Brahmanandam, Ali, Venumadhav and Sunil could make the audience laugh but not as much as Venkatesh could do. He was the best among comedians.

It was a pleasant to see Venu and Nikitha in guest roles. Arthi Chabriya was hot in her item number and NTR was smart in his french beard. He will appear on screen in a song and will entertain the audience with few dancing steps in his style.

Story: Chintakayala Ravi (Venkatesh) is a bar attender in a bar in USA but lies to his parents (Lakshmi and Chandra Mohan) that he is a software engineer in USA in order to keep his mother happy. Marriage is settled for Ravi with Mamidikayala Lavanya (Mamtha Mohandas) who falls flat for him after knowing that her would be is a software engineer in USA. Lavanya calls up her friend Sunitha (Anushka) in USA and asks her to enquire about Ravi.

This is the start of problems and what happens next is a mess up of things which should be seen on screen only.

Summary:
The movie deals with the conflict among the powers of God, Evil, and Science, as seen in the case of a child.

What it's all about?
Rajeev (Jagapathi Babu) runs a construction company on his daughter's name Raksha (Neha Thota) and lives happyily with his wife Arthi (Kalyani), mother (Radhakumari), and his children Rahul (Master Atulith) and Raksha. The construction crew finds a stone with an embossed shape like Lord Ganesha. Despite the repeated insistence of Site Manager Shyam (Narsing Yadav), Rajeev declines the plea to build a temple there, since it'd change their construction plans totally. The site incharge Vinay (Subbaraju) once complains to Rajeev that the latter's close friend Venu (Rajeev Kanakala) and his wife Madhu (Sathya Krishnan) have been cheating the company. An enraged Rajeev kicks them out of his house and workplace. Strange happenings occur at Rajeev's home, and soon his daughter Raksha starts behaving strangely. Is it a case of black magic? Or, is it a psychiatric problem? Or, is it Lord Ganesha's anger? Did the atheist Rajeev heed to his mom and wife and consult black magicians for a solution? What did the doctors find about the girl? The film goes through several scenes that bring a shudder or a stir within, as the real reasons are revealed.

Performances:

Cast:
Jagapathi Babu gave a very good performance as the tensed parent of a lovable daughter. His silence also is so expressive, particularly in the scene where he looks at his mom in the hospital when a black magician walks in. Baby Neha is superb as the child that undergoes trauma, and so is cuet Atulith as her innocent younger brother. Kalyani is adequate as the mother of two children, who cannot command her loving husband, and Radhakumari is fitting as the grandmother of the children, who strongly believes in black magic, voodoo and other such occult powers. Pradeep Rawath gives a totally different performance in the distinct role he got to play in the film. Jeeva is dignified as a child psychologist, Subbaraju is good, and Jayasudha appears in a special role as Seema, the country's renowned psychiatrist.

Technical Departments:
The film's theme is inspired by, and is loosely based on, the popular trilogy of Yandamuri Virendranath from the late '70s and early '80s - the novels Tulasi, tulasiidaLam, and ashTaavakra. The story is convincing, and the treatment is good too in that it leaves open questions to the audience towards the end. Sound effects, BGM, and audiography, the key departments for a thriller, are commendably handled. Interestingly, the film doesn't depend much on visual effects, but camerawork is good and the lighting effects are good. Dialogues are good, with light comedy when possible, and thought-provoking when necessary. The director should be appreciated for a tight screenplay, convincing narration, and conviction in execution, without taking the focus off the theme with distractions such as songs. Certain symbolic shots are good too, such as the way he shows everyone "praying" in their own way about the child's well-being towards the end of the film.

• Jeeva, himself a psychologist, pronounces the word "psychiatrist" as "psy chriatist".
• How come Jagapathi Babu grew up an atheist if his mom told bedtime stories involving ghosts and Gods?

Bottom Line:

Raksha is an intense suspense thriller powered by gripping screenplay, good background score and audio effects, and decent performances. It'd appeal to those sections of audiences that like films of this genre.
