Dull Season, Nil Collections!

It has been a very bad season for Tollywood. From Dussera to Deepavali, the revenue for films have dwindled drastically and most of the movies released during this season ended up as losers. What is surprising is to see that a big star like Venkatesh’s movie - Chintakayala Ravi biting the dust. The film is supposedly an urban movie (or Multiplex film) but it is not even having decent run in A centers. In Prasads Multiplex, the movie is now having only one show in one screen in its fifth week. Already the film has suffered hugely from the reduction in prices of ticket rates. Adding salt to injury, the collections have completely come down. For distributors, it is flop.

Kotta Bangaru Lokam is just an average!

Dil Raju’s Kotta Bangaru Lokam got rave reviews but the movie is doing just an average business. Especially the business in Andhra Pradesh has taken a beating in its fifth weak. In Hyderabad and some coastal districts, it is doing fine. On the overall, it can be an average movie to above average grocer. Surprisingly, in overseas, the movie’s collections are contrary to the glowing reviews. Except in New Jersey and California, KBL has not made any profits to its distributors or exhibitors.

Big losers..

The recent movies Teja’s Keka and Nitin’s Hero, Sekhar Suri’s Three - all are utter flops.

Blade Babjee takes good openings...

Allari Naresh’s comedy Blade Babjee has emerged as winner. Its collections in all the three regions in Andhra Pradesh are impressive.

The Final Tally of the recent movies..

Chintakayala Ravi Average to Flop in A.P
Kotta Bangaru Lokam Above Average in A.P; Avg to flop in Overseas

Ankitha’s Hot Video In Youtube

A few days back a video was posted in Youtube stating that was the hot byte of Shilpa Shetty. But when Shilpa Shetty along with her PR team found that was not hers, the video was removed. But later it was discovered that the video belongs to Ankitha and that is from the film ‘Simhadri’. Ankitha said, “Yes! The video is mine. An ant drops in my blouse and that was a naughty romantic scene with NTR where the song Cheema Cheema would hit the screen. But people mistook it as Shilpa Shetty’s video”.

Well, Ankitha must be happy for mistaking her with Shilpa Shetty’s structure. Ankitha is bulging now and worried about the same. Now it’s a relief for her for making her body-shape tantamount to that of Shilpa Shetty.

Lakshmi Rai Bribed To Protect From Sex Scandal?

Lakshmi Rai was alleged in a sex scandal recently. A pimp by name Kannada Prasad was caught by police with whom the photograph of Lakshmi Rai was found along with other sex workers.

This raised doubt among the film and police circles. Lakshmi Rai condemned that saying that there is no need for her to do such acts for money.

But now the Bangalore grapevine says that she bribed the concerned officials and also Kannada Prasad not to make uproar with her name.

If this is true, we can once again affirm that money can do anything.

Sania Mirza dating Navadeep?

Sania Mirza who seems to have a soft corner for actors is now very friendly with actor Navdeep. Earlier there were rumors that Ankitha had consumed sleeping pills during a shoot with Navdeep in Mauritius.

He had used some nasty lingo which she didn’t like.. but of course Navdeep said that was just not in his upbringing and his side of the story hadn’t been heard. According to a source, Sania likes this kiddo. Whatever happened to Shahid Kapur? (telugudreams)

NTR and Kalyan Ram on cold war?

According to sources, a cold war is now going on between siblings NTR and Kalyan Ram to secure a ticket for their follower. The bone of contention is the Gannavaram assembly ticket. While Kalyan Ram is keen on securing the ticket to his follower Dasari Balavardhan Rao, NTR is keen to see that the ticket goes to his friend and producer Vamsi Mohan.

Kalyan Ram is conducting a road show in Gannavaram in support to Balavardhan Rao. On learning about this, producer Vamsi Mohan, who is now making a film with NTR directed by VV Vinayak, swung into action immediately. He has now managed to convince NTR to conduct a road show in Gannavaram in the second week of November to drum up support for his candidature.(chitramala)

This beautiful heroine can speak SIX languages

Sindhu Menon, the lady who became famous after playing second lead in Chandamama, is fluent in six languages. The Malayali speaks flawless Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and English besides her native tongue. Definitely, a good achievement for an actress in South India. When we chatted her up recently, she shared an interesting anecdote. "When I got a call for Chandamama, I wasn’t sure who was Vamsi. I saw him only after the screen-test was over, and exclaimed that it was Krishna Vamsi." Sindhu, who’s Rainbow released recently, reveals that she has four films in the pipeline. Dil Raju‘s Property Worth Rs 1000 Cr (!)

One gets astounded knowing Dil Raju‘s property value. His fate has been showering boons on him that no venture was a loss in his hands. Whatever he caught that turned out to be gold. He is worth Rs 1000 Cr now but still tries to maintain his profile in the way he has been showing all these years.

The biggest strength in him is his distribution network, say people. He never allows any outsider over take his areas and resources.

That‘s how he maintains his people, say sources. Majority of Dil Raju‘s properties are in the form of lands and resorts. Dil Raju can be called as the one who achieved bigger financial status in young age. No big producer has got that property as Dil Raju has!!!!!!!

Naidu tells a story

It’s official.  Junior NTR is not participating in the yuva garjana to be held on November 5 at Guntur.
TDP president Chandrababu Naidu announced on Monday that NTR is not participating in the event.  According to Naidu, Jr NTR is not coming to the meeting due to busy schedule.  He added that NTR will participate in the future programmes of the party.

Congress party wooing Jr NTR?

The parties are competing to woo film stars in the state.  Chiranjeevi’s arrival has brought much demand to stars in politics.
To counter Chiru’s campaign, Chandrababu Naidu has roped Nandamuri heroes to work for the party.
The timing of yuva garjana is not auspicious.  The much publicized Junior NTR is not participating in the meeting.  Ironically, NTR’s absence got more attention of the media much to the dismay of Naidu.
Naidu could not succeed in convincing Jr NTR.  Naidu later gave lame duck excuse for the absence of Jr NTR.
In the crisis of NTR family, the Congress party senses an opportunity.  Reportedly, the Congress party is wooing Junior NTR through a MP who was close to the TDP.  If this turns out to be reality, then Naidu has to blame himself.

Balaiah paathshala

Yuvaratna Balakrishna is taking politics seriously.  While participating in shooting, Balaiah is learning the tricks of politics.
He is preparing for yuva garjana to deliver speech like a seasoned politician.  Balaiah might have taken the comment of Taraka Ratna that babai will become CM one day.
Though Balaiah is not eyeing the CM’s chair in the near future, but he wants to play active role in the politics.
Balaiah is meeting TDP leaders from various districts.  He is inquiring about the local issues.
Balaiah is known for his powerful dialogues.  He wants to some punch dialogues for the next month’s meeting.
There are proposals that Balaiah should content polls from North Andhra where the wind is in favour of Praja Rajyam.

Jab We Met in Telugu

Sasirekha Parinayam starring Genelia is a remake of Shahid-Kareena’s superhit Jab We Met. Tarun is playing Shahid Kapoor’s character.
The film is directed by Krishna Vamshi.  Kareena Kapur got best actress award for this film.

Celina's love mystery continues

She came in the Telugu movie as the leading lady for Manchu Vishnuvardhan Babu and today she holds the most hottest looks in the Bollywood industry. But now, it is not her figure but her feelings that are being scanned. We are talking about the dusky sex kitten Celina Jaitly and lately she is being watched and talked about over her possibly close association with Tusshar Kapoor, son of the legendary Jeetendra. Incidentally, both of them are coming together for the complete comedy entertainer 'Golmaal Returns' that also has Ajay Devgan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead. However, both of them have clarified that there is no such thing happening between them and Celina from her end is more keen on talking about her new mansion in Goa than the man in her life.

Shirya warned

Shriya hits the headlines for the wrong reason.  The South Indian Cine Artiste’s Association (SICAA), has reportedly sent instructions to Shriya to participate in the protest planned by Kollywood on 1st November to support the Lankan Tamils’ cause.
Shriya is known for keeping it short even in controversies.  Will she obey the instructions of SICAA?

Priyamani’s favourite

Priyamani, the National Award winning actress says, she would have been looking at a course in psychology if Paruthiveeran didn’t happen.
She will soon begin to work on Mani Ratnam’s project.  She says, “I believe my character is still in the making.  I’ll have Mani sir tell me what I need to do once the character has been finalized.”

100 Samvatsarala Kritham Teja?

Director Teja has titled his flick as ‘100 Samvatsarala Kritam‘, according to film nagar sources this flick revolves around previous life concept, its heard that Teja is coming up with an interesting script for this flick.

Again he would be going with new faces for this flick as well. One really fails to understand how different can it get since the formula is the same and perhaps the presentation might differ slightly. Lets wait and watch how it goes.

KBL Swetha opposite Nagchaithanya?

Naga Chaitanya, son of Nagarjuna, is making his debut as hero in a film being produced by Dil Raju on the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations introducing Vasu Varma as director.

The shooting of the film was formally launched with the puja performed amidst Akkineni Nageswara Rao and D Ramanaidu and their families very recently on a grand scale. However, the regular shooting of the film is all set to begin from November 3 at Hyderabad.

It is reliably learnt that Naga Chaitanya got training in horse riding, bike chasing and other such stunt feats for his forthcoming film. It is learnt that a girl has been selected as heroine opposite Naga Chaitanya but the producer of the film Dil Raju is maintaining secret. Gossips are making rounds that Shwetha Prasad is also playing one among the heroines.

Kajal to be paired up with ‘Young Tiger‘!

Search is on for the second female lead for NTR‘s current movie. Buzz is that young heroine Kajal is being considered for the role in this film directed by V V Vinayak. NTR dons dual role in the movie while Ileana is the main heroine. Although, it has not yet been finalised, discussions are going on.

Kajal is currently shooting for Rajamouli‘s film opposite Ram Charan Teja. The movie has not yet completed 50 per cent shoot, hence she has to provide another two months of dates for the film. Kajal is trying hard to provide her dates to be paired up with NTR.

No film for Nagarjuna in 2009!

Buzz is that top hero Nagarjuna will not be doing any film in 2009 or wouldn’t be shooting for any film for another 8 months. He wants to go slow now as he has other plans than acting; two reasons are cited for his long leave. With his son Chaitu (as Naga Chaitanya is called at home) is making grand debut this year as hero, Nag wants to oversee that maiden film.
Chaitu’s maiden film being produced by Dil Raju would be releasing in Summer 2009. The other reason is that Nagarjuna is corporatising his studio, Annapurna Studios, and is developing it with high-end facilities. So, 2009 will take most of his time for these activities, and he might not be taking up any other film until late 2009.

On the other hand, Nagarjuna's current movie titled King, directed by Sreenu Vaitla, is releasing on December 19th this year.

I am not in love: Shriya

Shriya is once again in the thick of rumors. Earlier there were rumors that she was romancing Hollywood actor Jesse. And now in Chennai, a section of media reported that she is dating with cricketer Sreesanth. Miffed with rumours, Shriya today (Wednesday) outright denied them.
"I am not in love with anyone," she declared. A couple of days ago, she was spotted with cricketer in a fashion show in Mumbai. Since then the rumors began circulating. It was even reported that the two had dinner and left in a car together. "There is no place for romance in my life now. I am committed to acting', she clarified.
She alleged that it was a concocted story by some vested interests, who are against her fame and popularity. 'I have not met Sreesanth before and never spoke to him," she said.
Earlier Sreesanth was linked with another Bollywood beauty - Priyanka Chopra.

Another comedian daring to be a hero

Tollywood comedians are daring their way, entering into the big competition as heroes. It is known that Ali, Venu Madhav, Suneel, Krishna Bhagavan, and Brahmanandam have tried their hands in this transition. Latest in the que is ’Satyam’ Rajesh, who was introduced as a comedian with ’Satyam’ that starred Sumanth as hero.

The new film casting ’Satyam’ Rajesh as hero will be produced by an industrialist from Vizag. A young director is said to be introduced with this film.

Earlier this year Ali in ’Somberi’, Venu Madhav in ’Hungama’ & ’Premabishekam’ , Suneel in ’Andala Ramudu’, Krishna Bhagavan in ’John Apparao 40 plus’ and the comedy king Brahmanandam’s ’ Brahmanandam Drama Company’ have tried their hands in becoming heroes. But looks like transitions don’t always come easy, and they all failed to impress.

Ironically, these comedians have carved a niche for themselves in Telugu filmdom and drew applause even in star-centric films. May be it is a case of the actors have chosen bad scripts. Whatever it is, a niche attains itself for people of different strata in the filmdom and if comedians wish to make it to stardom, it would be one big task to attain this transition. - (indiaglitz)

Sunil to take up direction

Sunil came to Hyderabad with a view to get a chance in any department in the film industry. Incidentally, he became a comedian and earned a star image. Not only as a comedian, he turned a hero too and his film ‘Andala Ramudu’ was a big hit those days. However, he continued to remain a comedian, but did not attempt to do any role that comes in his way. Again he is playing a hero in the direction of SS Rajamouli now. Though many other established heroes are vying for a chance to work under Rajamouli, Sunil bagged the opportunity.

Meanwhile, a gossip is doing rounds that Sunil is going to take up direction. Moreover, it seems the film is going to be produced by Trivikram Srinivas. Rumours say that the film is likely to start rolling in summer next year. If this gossip is true, Sunil would create a record of working with four directors in one year as hero. As per information, Sunil is going to play hero under Rajamouli’s direction, with Mullapudi Vara providing the story. Chandrasekhar Yeleti penning the screenplay. Besides, he is going to direct the film with Trivikram Srinivas.

NTR not attending Yuva Garjana

Hero NTR will not be attending the Telugu Desam Party's Yuva Garjana slated to be held on November 5th at Guntur. The party supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu made a clarification to this extent. "Though NTR will not attend the function due to his hectic shooting schedules, he will continue to support the party and campaign for it in the future," he said. The heirs of late NT Rama Rao would be playing a vital role for the victory of the TDP, he further maintained.

Is NTR’s mom holding him back?

Hyderabad: It turns out that Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu’s political problems are embedded deeper within the NTR clan. Shalini, the mother of Junior NTR, is believed to be putting her foot down at the political forays of her son and has made it clear that he has to focus on his Tollywood career rather than politics at this juncture.

According to highly placed sources, it is Shalini who has prevailed upon 25-year-old Junior NTR against campaigning for Naidu. While TDP sources maintain that it is purely a motherly concern about the future of his son, insiders say that the reality is much more than that. “Shalini had been ostracised by the NTR family. In fact, it was Ch Ramoji Rao who gave a break to Junior NTR, not the family. The family started wooing him only after he made his mark in Tollywood, all on his own,” said one insider. Junior NTR is still a bachelor.

Ramoji Rao did launch Junior NTR, but the film ‘Ninnu Choodalani’ did not make any impact. It was the second film, ‘Student No. 1,’ that launched Junior NTR’s film career, and very shortly, hits like ‘Aadi’ and ‘Simhadri’ ensured that the ‘unaccepted’ grandson of NTR, and his closest look-alike, has arrived.

TDP insiders say Shalini had not forgiven the NTR clan on the one hand, and Naidu on the other, for the initial treatment meted out to her and son. While Junior NTR was virtually ignored by the NTR clan despite being the son of Harikrishna, she was not accepted in the Nandamuri clan because she was the second wife of Harikrishna.

Thus while the NTR clan is posing problems for Naidu by projecting Balakrishna as their leader rather than the TDP president, Shalini’s prevailing on Junior NTR to concentrate on his career rather than lend a helping hand to Naidu can act as a big blow to Naidu’s comeback dream. “With so many problems within, Naidu is relying on Balakrishna to sort things out but it is doubtful whether Junior NTR would listen to him as the latter considers his mother as the only person who stood by him through the thick and thin,” one insider remarked.

According to sources, Naidu has urged Balakrishna to prevail upon the clan to project a united picture at least at the ‘Yuvagarjana’ rally in Guntur on November 5. “Junior NTR’s absence would be a big blow for Naidu as the actor has a seizable following in the coastal region, the battleground where Chiranjeevi is threatening Naidu’s domain. Rather than Balakrishna, if Naidu wants Junior NTR at the Guntur rally, he should approach Shalini. But is he willing to do it is the question,” said a TDP leader. (TNN)

Ruthika’s new strategy

The Taraka mantram that Bhuwaneshwari realized some years ago is now in Ruthika’s hands. The Mantra is that Sex and comedy sell well. People will pay to watch either and if they come in a package who would say no? Bhuwaneshwari sells comedy and a lot of cleavage.

Films like ’Donga Ramudu and Party’ have her touch. Now Ruthika after all those desperate housewife roles has gone ballistic. In the latest offering Blade Babji she combines a little navel and cleavage exposure with some comedy. She seems to be doing well based on the audience response.

Ruthika’s role in Blade Babji is in some ways very similar to the one played by Bhuvaneshwari in ’Donga Ramudu and Party’. Ruthika also seems to be committed to enthrall audiences in time to come with her new found mantra. (andhracafe)

‘Show me the money’: Rimi Sen

Rimi Sen has pulled all stops to ensure that the producers of Horn Ok Pleassss pay all her dues. She has decided to file a legal suit against the producers for not paying the promised amount even after the completion of her work.

“The producers have left me in despair. I am still waiting for the balance amount to be paid. They assured me that they would pay off all the balance by October 17, but I still have to hear from them,” says Rimi, adding, “I told them I wouldn’t participate in the film’s promotional events unless my money is cleared. They went ahead with the promotions without bothering to call me. My payment shouldn’t depend on whether the movie is being sold or not. They shouldn’t have taken me for granted. I have already spoken to my lawyers and they will soon forward a legal notice. I am also going to raise the issue with Cine and TV artists association and The Producers Association.”

Tabu’s unfilfilled Sexual desires

Immensely talented Tabu will be seen in Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s upcoming film. The film is set in the backdrop of the reign of Emperor Ashoka.

The film resolves around the relationship between Emperor Ahoka and his son, Kinal. Tabu’s new avtar is a bit controversial in the film, as she plays a sexually deprived woman, thereby allowing a good deal of sexual connotation. She is cast opposite of Amitabh Bachchan and will be seen as sexually linked with Kunal, played by Arjun Rampal.

As in the Director’s word, ‘She’s unable to achieve sexual fulfillment. Desire when uncontrolled, plays havoc with the mind. That’s Tabu’s story’ in the film. He also quotes that her character suffers from ‘ kama tanha’ or ‘sexual isolation’.

The sexual yearning of Tabu’s character is contrasted with another character of the film, the character of Kanchanmala, Kunal’s wife, to be portrayed by Amrita Rao. According to Dwivedi, if Tabu’s character implies ‘thirst’, Amrita’s character implies ‘purity’. There seems to be quite a good opportunity to set a dramatic confrontation between these two leading ladies in the film.

Sindhu tulani hopes

sindhu tulaniSINDHU TOLANI seems to be enjoying playing second fiddle (no offense meant). A look at her recent releases will put things in perspective. She was the surprise element in the NITIN starrer Victory and just released Hare Ram in which she played a firebrand journalist.
The critics had wasted no time in writing her off after the release of Bathukamma, in which Sindhu played a rustic village belle. With not many good offers coming her way, the pretty actress had to make do with the little that came her way. But it could all change if her next film goes on to be a hit. Sindhu is playing the lead Black and White, being directed by PHANI RAJ. RAJEEV KANAKALA is playing the lead in the film, being produced by RAMESH BABU. Touted to be a murder mystery the film is scheduled to release in August.

How I entered Bollywood: Sameera

When I was studying at Saidan home college (Mumbai), got opportunity to act in Pankaj Udhas video Aahista, then I felt why I should not take acting as serious, says sultry Sameera Reddy about her film industry entry.
Sameera is trained in Kathak dance and acting.  She made her debut in the film Maine Dil Tujhko Diya.  Later, I got opportunities in Telugu, Bengali.
Sameera Telugu films, Narasimhudu, Jai Chiranjeevi and Ashok could not bring her more opportunities in Tollywood.
To succeed in life, discipline is very important and through Kathak dance training I learnt a lot, says Sameera.  To keep her sexy body fit, Sameera relies on yoga and dance practice.

Sexiest eyes in the world

Aishwarya Rai has the sexiest eyes in the world.  The world’s most beautiful woman walked away with a coveted title of having the sexiest eyes in US TV E!’s Sexiest Body Parts List.
Aishwarya’s dazzling eyes have been voted the sultriest. Supermodel Gisele Bundchen walked away with the sexiest legs award.  Charlize Theron has the sultry shoulders.
Scarlett Johansson has been voted the celebrity with the best breast.  Actress Jessica Biel’s butt has topped the list of E!’s sexiest bottom.

Nitin- Ileana flick progressing smoothly

While the youth star Nitin has been biting his nails in frenzy over the release of his new movie 'Hero', he has also been busy with the shaping up of his other venture. This time, he is pairing up with none other than the ravishing beauty with one of the most seductive hips and curves Ileana. The shooting has been progressing briskly and this is being directed by Paruchuri Murali while the producer of the film happens to be G V Ramana.

Given his new muscular looks and the ravishingly beautiful looks of Ileana, this pair might give out some sparks on the screen when they are seen together.

Keka - Movie Review

Film: Keka

Cinematography: P.C.Sreeram
Music director: Chakri
Editing: Shankar
Choreography: Shankar, Suchitra
Lyrics: Veturi, Seetarama Shastry, Chandrabose
Executive producer: K Jagadeesh Reddy
Story, screenplay, dialogues, produced and directed by: Teja
Release Date: October 23, 2008
What’s it about!
Arjun (Raja) is a student and he meets a young beauty Sujata (Ishana) in a village. Both of them hail from Hyderabad but they come to this village on holidays where their grand parents reside. After an incident, Sujata’s grandparents take to her to the city where her parents fix marriage with a rich guy Kiran (Anup) who happens to be Arjun’s best friend. Now all these three land in same college and love between Arjun and Sujata blossoms again. When Arjun tells Kiran that he is in love with Sujata, the latter readily sacrifices for their friendship. It doesn’t look as simple as that there is twist in the tale too.

Analysis
Director Teja was once a force to recon with and delivered some blockbusters. It was history and happened so loooong time ago. After a hiatus of three years, he takes up another love story with newcomers titled Keka to reinvent success for himself. But his latest attempt fails big time. It hardly has anything new to offer. With tepid screenplay, silly comedy, clichéd romantic scenes between the lead pair and dull dialogues, the film is completely flawed. Basic storyline is copied from Korean film - The Classic.
Teja is just repeating what he has done in his earlier films (in Nuvvu - Nenu, he has shown how to repair broken Telephone hand; In Jayam, he lets us know how to escape through roofk and in Keka he shows that with stethoscope one can make a speaker too! Wow!).
First half itself is futile exercise and post the interval the movie is completely lost. On the whole, Keka is a big disappointment. When the film finally ends, you feel like you've come out of battle.

Performances
Veteran lyricist Sirivennela Seetarama Shastry’s younger son Raja has made debut as lead hero with this movie. For a newcomer, he has done neat job. Especially he has shown the variation in his character - one with long hair and other one as trendy college going youth. Navadeep has lent voice for his role. Heroine Ishana has good figure and beauty but she needs to develop on her expressions. Her character is so stupid and very confusing - sometimes she acts crazy. Raasi’s dubbing for Ishana doesn’t suit well. Anup Kumar who played the negative role is unimpressive (Ajay provides the dubbing). Of other ‘so-called new talent’, the guy who played the role with ‘over-action’ is pain in the neck through out the movie. So much for ‘Kannanba Cutting’!
Prior to the release, the film has generated so much interest for the camerawork of P.C.Sreeram. Frankly speaking, with all due respect to P.C sir, his ‘trademark’ style is visible only in the songs. Songs by Chakri are impressive with good lyrical value. Even the picturisation of the songs are also good. Director Teja as writer and director is hardly impressive.

Bottom-line!
Another dud from Teja! Keka fails to impress. Actually it tests the patience of the audiences with its hollow script and tepid narration. Except three songs, there is no aspect of the film that is wroth of writing about.

Summary:
An action-oriented flick that revolves around the Police Academy.
What's it all about?
Radha Krishna (Nitin) is the son of the Commissioner of Police Nagendra Naidu (Nagababu), who has the support of his mother Sarala (Kovai Sarala) for his careless attitude. The Home Minister of the State (Babumohan) passes a G.O. that allows every honest individual to join the police force so as to bring in more people into maintaining the law and order of the land. A whole mob of people (Sravana Sandhya, Brahmanandam, Satyam Rajesh, Tirupathi Prakash, Tarzan, Priyanka, etc.) including a homely Krishnaveni (Bhavana) queue up at the Police Academy headed by (Ramyakrishna). Eventually, it's learnt that one of those who joined the Academy thus is a naxalite on the run! Was it wrong to allow everyone into the police force?
Performances
Cast:
Nitin does an okay job, but his character is much limited and doesn't give much scope to emote. He has a differently styled attire, which fits him okay. Bhavana looks the girl next door and performs okay, but her character is shallow too. Nagababu as the Commissioner of Police has a lengthy role to play and he's his usual. Ramyakrishna has a short role as the Director of the A.P. Police Academy. Kapil Khanna as the professional killer from Dubai is fitting. Kota Srinivasa Rao as the main villain Prem Kumar has a rolethat seriously lacks depth or definition. Brahmanandam, Satyam Rajesh, Tirupathi Prakash, Ali and all others are all wasted, like the rest of the lead cast. Tanu Royappears in an item song that's totally unnecessary for the film.

Technical Departments:
The plot point that anyone can join the police force is innovative. However, the screenplay is totally flat. The first half lacks any story movement, yet has an interesting interval bang. However, the debutant director G.V. fails in keeping the interest through the second half. The taking is seriously affected by various inconsistencies. While his story narration and screenplay seem to be good, he somehow fails in the overall job of running the direction department well. Camerawork is particularly good, but DI work brings in inconsistencies pertaining to focus and lighting. Picturization of songs is okay, but the song placement is totally nonsensical. Choreography offers good moments to the hero to portray his skill but is not a wow. The sets used for songs indicate commendable work bythe Art department. Fights are executed in style, without any slow-motion highlighting, which makes them worth watching. Dialogues are just okay, but they could have more punch given the theme of the film. Music score is good, but some of the tunes are directly lifted - sye kurraaDE... from Shake it ( Naksha), naa vayasE puvvula poTlam... from prEm jaal mein... ( Jis Des Mein Ganga Rahta Hai), and parts of Yahoo Yahoo... from Hutch phone ammaayi... ( Godava); Don and Crazy Frog tracks can be heard all over the film. as a part of the BGM. Lyrics by Anantha Sriram leave much to expect, while Bhaskarabhatla's mass-oriented song delivers with the goods. Lyrics could have been affected by the improper song placement too. Editing could have been much crisper. Costumes for the lead roles are eye-catching. However, giving branded wear and formal attires to the imprisoned villain and to Brahmanandam doesn't make much sense; makeup and hairstyling for the lead artistes complements the costumes and brings in a stylish look to the hero and a homely looks to the heroine, as appropriate to their characters. Production values are rich, and the debut producer Ramesh should be appreciated for spending lavishly for the film; how much of it was useful is a different question.
Notable Scenes/Dialogues:

  • " Public-lO oka 2% maatram criminals unnaaru. kaanee, mee Police     Department-lO 1% ayinaa sincere officers unnaaraa?"     (A common man questioning the police in a TV show)
  • " oka mass hero-ki kaavala sinavannii maa Police     Academy-lO mooDu nelallO nErpistaarE!"     (Nagababu to Kovai Sarala)
  •     " dESam kOsam sainikuDu, nyaayam kOsam police-ODu chaavaDam ee     dESaaniki kotta kaaduraa!"     (Nagababu to Kapil Khanna)
  • Sun rise in Kapil Khanna's goggles, tricolor flag reflecting in the eye     of the ACB officer, a goon's reddened eyes going on to become Nitin's     goggles, and other good visuals.
Minor Overlook:

A camera mobile phone has a 5 km zoom?! Wow!
      • When honest and responsible citizens are invited to join the Police     Academy, why is that every Tom, Dick, and Harry come and join? What's their motivation to join in the first place, when they appear outright careless and casual about the whole thing?!
      • The plaster on Nitin's face is shown clearly in the song kannullOna     kanabaDi... song a few times. (Reviewer's Note: Nitin was injured while shooting for his yet-to-release film Drona and the plaster was due to this injury.)
      • Kapil Khanna is shown up close many times while he speaks, and it's very clear that he's not talking his lines in Telugu! Some care should have been taken in his pronunciation.
      • Sunrise in Kapil Khanna's goggles is good, alright, and the merging shot showing the passage of time through this shot is not easily comprehensible. (If it's not a merging shot, it'd seem like the murder happened early in the morning, and a mobile store cannot be open at that time.)
Bottom Line:
Hero doesn't seem like a run of the mill story, but the novelty is lost soon. The taking and shallow characterizations mar the film. Not even one character is rightly established in the film! Add to this the quite improper song placement, and ill logic, and all these aspects together influence the film's run.
